Wisconsin, Denver to Meet in NCAA Title Game

Wisconsin scored twice in 27 seconds in the opening period, with Ryan Botterill's goal standing up as the game-winner, and the Badgers also killed off five power plays to top North Dakota, 2-1, in the early semifinal game of the 2026 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey Frozen Four in Las Vegas.

In the nightcap, Denver's Johnny Hicks made 49 saves in all, and Kent Anderson scored midway through the second overtime to lift the Pioneers to a 4-3 victory over No. 1 Michigan.

Wisconsin and DU will now meet on Saturday (5 p.m. ET, ESPN) at T-Mobile Arena for the national title, in another battle of former WCHA schools. The Badgers (24-12-2 overall) are after their first NCAA crown since 2006, while the Pioneers (28-11-3) are seeking their second NCAA title in three seasons, and third in five campaigns. 

Princeton Falls to Brown in ECAC First Round

Princeton University's 2024-25 men's hockey season has come to a close. The Tigers fell, 3-2, at Ivy League rival Brown University tonight in the first round of the 2025 ECAC Hockey championship to finish their first campaign under new head coach Ben Syer.

Princeton took a 1-0 lead in the first period at Meehan Auditorium on a goal by Jayden Sisson, before Ryan St. Louis tied it in the second stanza for the Bears. Two goals by Brown's Tyler Kopff in the third period, the second one an empty-netter, spelled the difference, while Princeton's Kevin Anderson closed out the scoring in the final seconds of regulation with an extra-attacker tally. 

Ethan Pearson made 22 saves in his final appearance for the Tigers, while Lawton Zachler finished with 20 stops for the Bears. Brown outshot Princeton, 25-22, and also won 28 of 54 total faceoffs on the night. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play. 

Brown (14-13-3 overall, 9-11-2 ECACH) moves on to face third-seeded Colgate in the best-of-three second round of the ECACs next weekend, while Princeton (12-15-3, 7-12-3) will return to NCAA action at Hobey Baker Memorial Rink in the fall for the 2025-26 season.

UMD Wins 2019 NCAA Men's Division I Hockey Title

For the second straight season, Minnesota-Duluth is the NCAA Division I men's ice hockey national champion.

The Bulldogs scored once in each period Saturday to blank the University of Massachusetts, 3-0, in the 2018-19 national title game at Key Bank Center in Buffalo. Minnesota-Duluth (29-11-2 overall), which played in its third consecutive NCAA championship game, is the first back-to-back Division I men's hockey national champion since Denver in 2004 and 2005.

Parker Mackay (power-play goal), Mikey Anderson, and Jackson Cates scored for the Bulldogs, while Hunter Shepard stopped all 18 shots by UMass (31-10-0 overall). UMD outshot UMass, 31-18, and also snuffed all four power play attempts by the Minutemen, who were the top power play team in the nation this season.

Mackay, who also assisted on Anderson's second-period goal, was named Most Outstanding Player of this year's Frozen Four after playing in his final collegiate contest Saturday. Filip Lindberg finished with 28 stops for the Minutemen, who suffered the fourth shutout loss of their most successful  season ever.

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) has now won the last four consecutive NCAA Division I men's ice hockey national championships, after its formation in 2013. It will try for five straight national titles next April at the 2020 NCAA Frozen Four in Detroit.

U.S. Wins 2019 WJC Opener

Mikey Anderson (Minnesota-Duluth) tied the game in the third period, and Evan Barratt (Penn State) tallied the game-winner shortly afterward as the U.S. National Junior Team opened the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship with a 2-1 win over Slovakia on Wednesday in Victoria, B.C.

Kyle Keyser of the Oshawa Generals stopped 13 shots for Team USA, including a third-period penalty shot with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation, after the Americans had taken
the lead. The U.S. outshot Slovakia, 34-14, overall and finished 1-for-3 on the power play.

The U.S., which is tied for first place in Group 'B' with Sweden, will next face Kazahkstan in WJC action on Friday (10:30 p.m. ET, NHL Network).

U.S. Ousts Russia in WJC Quarterfinal

The U.S. National Junior Team will move on at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo. Team USA eliminated Russia, 4-2, on Tuesday in a quarterfinal match at Key Bank Center

Kieffer Bellows (Boston University) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the third period, to break a 2-2 tie. Dylan Samberg (Minnesota-Duluth) had two assists, including the lone one on Bellows' deciding score.

Joey Anderson (Minnesota-Duluth) sealed the contest with an empty-net goal in the final minute of regulation, while Kailer Yamamato tallied the other U.S. goal. Joe Woll (Boston College) finished with 27 saves for the Americans, who will now take on Sweden in a WJC semifinal game on Thursday.
