Calof Featured at NYHJ

Princeton senior scorer Andrew Calof is the subject of my latest feature story for New York Hockey Journal, which is now available online or at your local rink.

The Tigers (1-5 overall, 0-4 ECAC) are off to a rough start, while Calof has three assists in his first five games. Career-wise, he now has 40 goals and 65 assists for 105 points in 100 games in black-and-orange.

Princeton hosts UMass Lowell on Tuesday night at Baker Rink before entertaining Ivy league rival Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend. In Tiger alumni news, former defenseman Taylor Fedun tallied his first career NHL goal in his first career NHL game with the Edmonton Oilers, helping them to a 4-3 win at Minnesota on Nov. 5. Princeton's 2012-13 Season Ends

The Princeton University men's ice hockey team's 2012-13 campaign came to a close on Saturday night when the Tigers fell, 4-2, to Ivy League rival Cornell in Game Two of a best-of-three ECAC first-round series at Hobey Baker Rink.

Coupled with Cornell's 4-0 win on Friday in Game One, the victory sends the Big Red (14-14-3 overall) on to next weekend's quarterfinals against either Quinnipiac or Rensselaer. The loss ended the collegiate careers of Princeton's senior class of Mike Condon, James Kerr, Ken Kleebaum, Will MacDonald, Eric Meland and Michael Sdao.

Andre Calof set up MacDonald's first-period power-play goal that put Princeton up, 1-0, and then brough the Tigers within a goal with 45 seconds remaining in regulation. Joel Lowry then hit an empty net with 13 seconds left to seal Cornell's sixth win in its last eight games (6-1-1).

Brian Ferlin tallied Cornell's first goal, to tie the game up early in the second stanza, while Nick D'Agostino scored twice in the third period to put the Big Red up by two goals. Leading scorer Greg Miller had three assists for Cornell.

A goal with just under 11 minutes left by defenseman Alec Rush that would have gotten Princeton (10-16-5 overall) to within 3-2 was waived off due to a high stick. Condon made 29 saves in his final Princeton appearance, while Andy Iles posted 20 stops for Cornell.

Princeton's Calof Closing in on Century Mark

 

Princeton junior forward Andrew Calof has 99 points through his first 91 games with the Tigers (9-14-4, 7-10-3 ECAC), following a three-point outing against Yale on Feb. 23, and could earn Point No. 100 on Friday night at Dartmouth.

Calof is currently pacing Princeton with 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points through his first 27 games this season. My feature story on the Nepean, Ont. native for USCHO.com can be found here.

UPDATE: Calof earned his 100th career point in Saturday's 2-1 win at Harvard, as he notched the game-winning goal in overtime. The win, coupled with Friday's 2-2 tie at Dartmouth, lifted Princeton to an eighth-place finish in the ECAC. The Tigers will now host ninth-seeded Cornell in a best-of-three first-round series beginning Friday at Hobey Baker Rink.
