BC Wins First Men's Beanpot Since 2016

Boston College shook off an early deficit and rebounded for a 6-2 victory over Boston University last night in the 2026 Beanpot Tournament championship game at TD Garden in Boston. It was BC's 21st Beanpot men's crown all-time, in the 300th meeting overall between the two Commonwealth Avenue rivals, and first Beanpot championship since it also defeated BU in the title tilt in 2016.

After defending champion BU took an early 1-0, lead, BC responded with five consecutive goals, three of them on the power play. Andre Gasseau scored two goals for the 14th-ranked Eagles (16-9-1 overall), and Lukas Gustafsson notched the eventual game-winner from the point on a man advantage. Will Vote also scored twice for BC, including an empty-net insurance tally in the final two minutes of regulation, while Ryan Conmy collected four assists. 

Louka Cloutier stopped 27 shots in net for the Eagles, and also earned the Eberly Trophy as this year's top Beanpot goaltender with a .950 save percentage. BC's James Hagens took home Beanpot MVP accolades after registering two assists last night, and five points over two Beanpot contests. Mikhail Yegorov finished with 32 saves for BU (13-14-2), which got goals from Brandon Svoboda and Cole Eiserman. The Terriers and Eagles will meet again on Feb. 27-28, in a home-and-home series in Hockey East conference play.

Harvard took last night's Beanpot men's consolation contest with 4-1 victory over Northeastern. The Crimson won this year's women's Beanpot, defeating BU in overtime at TD Garden. 

 

Canada Wins Four Nations Face-Off

The first-ever Four Nations Face-Off went to Team Canada. 

The Canadians outlasted Team USA, 3-2, in overtime on Thursday night in the championship game at TD Garden in Boston. Cale Makar (Massachusetts) assisted on the game-winning goal by Connor McDavid. Brady Tkachuk (Boston University) and Jake Sanderson (North Dakota) scored in regulation for the Americans, who also got 24 saves in net from Connor Hellebuyck (UMass Lowell).

Canada thus avenged a 3-1 loss to Team USA in Montreal in the round-robin portion of the tournament, which exclusively featured NHL players. Other former NCAA players on the Canadian squad included Colton Parayko (Alaska Fairbanks) and Devon Toews (Quinnipiac). Sweden finished in third place, while Finland was fourth.

NHL players are expected to represent their respective nations at the 2025 IIHF World Championship in Sweden and Denmark, and at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.

BC, BU to Meet for 2025 Beanpot Crown

For the first time since 2016, the annual Beanpot Tournament will come down to Boston College and Boston University.

No. 8 BU routed Harvard, 7-1, in Monday's men's semifinal opener at TD Garden in Boston, while top-ranked BC pasted two-time defending champion Northeastern, 8-2. Cole Hutson tallied two goals and set up two others for BU in the Terriers' win, while Ryan Leonard notched a goal and two assists for the Eagles in BC's triumph.

Harvard and Northeastern will face off in the consolation contest next Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET, followed by BC-BU for all the beans for the 23rd time in the storied tournament's 72 years. The Eagles swept the Terriers in a home-and-home regular-season series on Jan. 24-25 as Leonard scored four goals and added an assist. 

BC won its last Beanpot in 2016, defeating BU in OT, while BU last took it home in 2022 by beating Northeastern that year in the final, snapping a three-year NU title streak.

ADDENDUM: BU topped BC, 4-1, to win its record 33rd Beanpot title, while Harvard edged Northeastern, 4-3, in the consolation.

Northeastern Claims Fifth Beanpot in Six Seasons

Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored with 27 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Northeastern to a 4-3 win over third-ranked Boston University in the men's Beanpot championship game on Monday night at TD Garden. The Huskies have now won five of the last six battles for Boston's college hockey bragging rights, in the tournament's 71st edition. Northeastern's women's team won its own Beanpot title last month, also at TD Garden.

NU battled back from three one-goal deficits last night, the last on Jack Williams' power-play tally midway through the third period, with the secondary assist going to Fontaine. Cameron Whitehead finished with 33 saves for the Huskies (13-12-2 overall), who were outshot, 36-17, in claiming their ninth men's Beanpot title all-time. BU fell to 19-8-1 on the season.

In the consolation game, top-ranked Boston College blanked Harvard, 5-0. Ryan Leonard had a goal and two assists for the Eagles (21-5-1), while Jan Korec made 19 stops for his first career NCAA win and shutout. Harvard dropped to 4-15-4.

NU, BU to Meet in 2024 Beanpot Final

It'll be an all-canine final affair again in the annual battle for Boston bragging rights.

Northeastern outlasted Harvard, 3-2, in overtime of the first semifinal of the 71st Beanpot tournament on Monday night at TD Garden, while third-ranked Boston University held on to edge No. 1 Boston College, 4-3 in the nightcap. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored just over a half-minute into the extra session to lift NU, while Ryan Greene's early third-period goal stood up as the game-winner for BU.

Northeastern has won four of the last five men's Beanpots, after last winning in 1988 prior to its current run. BU, which has won a record 31 Beanpots, last raised the trophy in 2022 when it defeated NU, 1-0, in the final. Monday's final will pit NU against BU for the Beanpot title for the 16th time in tournament history. The consolation game earlier that day will feature Harvard against BC for the first time since 2022.

Harvard and Northeastern to Meet in Beanpot Men's Final for First Time Ever

For the first time in its 70-year history, the Beanpot men's final will match Harvard against Northeastern. The Crimson and Huskies will face off next Monday at TD Garden in Boston for the title, the first time that will occur since the tournament began back in late 1952.

Harvard, ranked 10th in the national polls, punched its ticket to this year's championship game by outlasting Boston College, 4-3, in overtime in the opener on Monday. Marek Hejduk's score with just over one second remaining in the 3-on-3 extra session was the difference, after BC had fought back from a 3-1 deficit with back-to-back goals in the final five minutes of regulation. 

Hejduk finished with two goals on the afternoon for the Crimson (16-6-1 overall), as did Matthew Coronato. Mitchell Gibson notched 45 saves for the Crimson, who were outshot by a 22-2 count in the third period alone. Lukas Gustafsson posted two assists and Mitch Benson made 21 stops for the Eagles (9-11-6), who are winless in their last seven outings overall.

In the nightcap, No. 20 Northeastern jumped out to a 2-0 lead against third-ranked and defending Beanpot champion Boston University, then held on for a 3-1 victory. The Huskies (14-10-3) scored once in each period, with Jakov Novak leading the way with a goal and an assist, including the game-winning goal early in the second period. 

After Matt Brown got the Terriers (20-7-0) within a goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Hunter McDonald sealed matters with his shot into an empty BU net with 30 seconds left, the first goal of his NCAA career. Devon Levi stopped 33 shots for NU, while Drew Commesso came up with 26 stops for BU, which saw its seven-game winning streak snapped.

BC and BU will meet in the consolation game for the first time ever on Feb. 13, followed by the first-ever Crimson-Huskies tilt for the Beanpot men's title later that night. Harvard is seeking its first Beanpot crown since 2017, while the Huskies had won three straight tournaments until last year, when they fell to BU in by a goal in the final. (The 2021 edition of the event was canceled by COVID-19.)

Denver, MSU Advance to 2022 NCAA Title Game

The Big Ten Conference got two teams to this year's men's Frozen Four, but neither will appear in the 2022 NCAA Division I title game at TD Garden in Boston. 

Denver outlasted top-seeded Michigan, 3-2, tonight as Carter Savoie followed up his own rebound with just over five minutes remaining in the first overtime period to send the Pioneers (30-9-1 overall) to their first national title game since 2017. Michigan, which featured 13 NHL draft choices on its roster, including seven first-round selections, closed its campaign at 31-10-1.

In the nightcap, Minnesota State surrendered an early goal to in-state rival Minnesota, but then roared back with five scores of its own over the last 40 minutes as the Mavericks advanced to their first-ever NCAA championship game with a 5-1 win. Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist Dryden McKay made 16 stops for the victorious Mavericks (38-5-0), who have now won 18 straight contests this season. Minnesota ends its year at 26-13-0.

DU, from the NCHC, and MSU, from the new CCHA, will now meet on Saturday night in Boston (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2) in the final NCAA game of the season to see who will lift the national champion trophy.

BC Eliminates UNH, Stays Alive in Hockey East

Tyler Ward scored all of New Hampshire's goals, but his Wildcats ultimately came up short in a 4-3 overtime loss at Boston College on Wednesday night in a first-round Hockey East tournament game. BC improves to 15-17-5 overall, while UNH ends its 2021-2022 campaign at 14-19-1.

Marc McLaughlin connected for his second goal of the evening, just under 18 minutes into the extra session, at Conte Forum to boost BC to its fifth win in its last seven outings. Jack McBain and Nikita Nesterenko (shorthanded) also scored for the Eagles, who led 3-1 after 40 minutes of play before Ward scored twice, both times on the power play, in less than seven minutes to knot matters. Eric Dop finished with 44 saves in goal for the Eagles, while Mike Robinson made 23 stops for the Wildcats.

BC will now play at Northeastern on Saturday night in the single-elimination quarterfinal round. The winner will advance to the Hockey East semifinals at TD Garden. The Eagles and Huskies split a home-and-home conference series last month, with the road team winning in each contest. 

Boston College Advances to HEA Semifinals

Boston College men's hockey's season is still alive.

Sophomore forward Logan Hutsko's goal midway through the third period on Sunday boosted BC to a 2-1 win in the third and deciding game of the Eagles' first-round Hockey East tournament series at Providence College. Hutsko also scored the game-winner 23 seconds into overtime on Saturday in a 4-3 victory at Schneider Arena that tied the series at one game apiece.

Providence had won the opener, 5-4, in overtime on Friday. BC junior goaltender Joseph Woll stopped 105 of 114 shots by the opposing Friars over the weekend, and made at least 34 saves each
night.

BC will now take on Hockey East's No. 1 seed in Massachusetts, which eliminated New Hampshire in two games, on Friday at 7 p.m. The early conference semifinal, at 4 p.m., will pit second-seeded Northeastern against Boston University. Both semifinals will be played at TD Garden in Boston, with the championship game to be contested on Saturday. The winner will receive Hockey East's automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division I Tournament.

2017 Beanpot Begins Tonight

The 65th Annual Beanpot Tournament is underway at TD Garden in Boston.

Northeastern and Harvard, who last won in 1988 and 1993, respectively, are meeting in the matinee opener today, while the last two victors, Boston University (2015) and Boston College (2016), will face off around 8 p.m. ET.

BU leads the four schools with 30 tournament wins since the Beanpot began in 1952. BC is second with 20 victories, followed by Harvard (10) and Northeastern (4).

Tonight's winners meet will next Monday night, following the consolation contest.

ADDENDUM: Harvard edged Northeastern, 4-3, in the opener before BU topped BC, 3-1, in the nightcap.

BC Wins 2016 Beanpot Over BU, 1-0

Alex Tuch’s long shot eluded goaltender Sean Maguire just under two minutes into overtime to lift Boston College to a 1-0 victory over Boston University in the 2016 Beanpot Tournament title game Monday night at TD Garden. It was the first 1-0 contest in the Beanpot’s 64 years of competition, and also gave third-ranked BC its 20th Beanpot title overall before 15,000-plus onlookers.

After taking a short pass from Zach Sanford high in the offensive zone, Tuch delayed before uncorking a wrist shot through a screen that beat Maguire on the stick side and clanged in off the post. It was the 11th goal of the season for the Baldwinsville, N.Y. native, who was also assisted on the play by defenseman Steve Santini.

Maguire earned Beanpot Most Outstanding Player honors after making 41 saves for the seventh-ranked Terriers (16-8-4 overall), while Thatcher Demko had 30 stops for the Eagles (20-4-4), who have won six of the last seven Beanpot championships. Demko’s shutout was also his ninth of the season, setting a new school record.

The game was delayed for about half an hour following a power failure that may have been related to snowfall in Boston last night. BC outshot BU, 42-30, including 23-12 in the first period, while the two Green Line rivals combined to go 0-for-5 on the power play.

In the consolation game played earlier on Monday, Northeastern defeated ninth-ranked Harvard, 5-1. BU had edged Northeastern, 3-1, in the Beanpot’s opening round after BC outlasted Harvard, 3-2, both on Feb. 1. Either BC or BU has won the Beanpot every year since Harvard (13-7-3) last claimed it in 1993, while Northeastern (10-13-5) last took a victory lap in 1988 in the since-demolished Boston Garden.

Next year’s Beanpot slate will have BC facing BU, and Northeastern taking on Harvard in the first round the first Monday of February.

BC, BU to Meet for All the Beans in 2016

It'll be Eagles and Terriers again next Monday (weather permitting) next week at TD Garden.

Boston College and Boston University advanced to the 64th Beanpot Tournament title game after posting wins in the semifinal round yesterday. The fourth-ranked Eagles came back to edge No. 7 Harvard, 3-2, in the opener, while the No. 9  Terriers outlasted Northeastern, 3-1, in the nightcap.

Colin White's second-period power-play goal stood up as the game-winner in BC's victory, after the Crimson had taken a 2-1 lead in the first period by scoring on its first two shots on goal of the game.

Sean Maguire, who was a medical redshirt last season, made 24 saves in net for BU as the Terriers jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then held off the Huskies with a late empty-net goal.

BU won last year's Beanpot title, and has a record 30 crowns to its credit. BC had won the previous five Beanpots, and will be seeking its 20th ring since the tournament commenced in 1952. It will be the 22nd championship game meeting between the two Hockey East Association and MBTA Green Line rivals, and first since 2012 when BC won, 3-2, in overtime en route to the NCAA title.

Harvard last won the Beanpot in 1989, the last year the Crimson also won the national title. that title came one year after Northeastern claimed its last Beanpot crown in 1988.

Providence Wins First National Title

For the first time in its long history, Providence College is the national champion of NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey.

The 15^th-ranked Friars defeated the favored No. 2 Boston University Terriers, 4-3, in the NCAA title game before 18,022 at TD Garden in Boston.  Brandon Tanev scored the game-winning goal with 6:17 remaining in regulation, picking up a loose puck after a faceoff win by Kevin Rooney and stepping to his left before roofing a shot over the glove of BU netminder Matt O’Connor.

Tanev’s goal came less than two minutes after Friars defenseman Kyle McKenzie flipped the puck in from center ice.  O’Connor (39 saves) gloved it, but somehow lost control, dropped the puck, and kicked it into the Terriers’ net to tie the game, 3-3. It was his second major puckhandling gaffe of the Frozen Four, and helped to end BU’s 17-0-0 season streak when taking a lead into the third period.

The Friars (26-13-2) took a 1-0 lead 9:25 into the contest after Anthony Florentino blasted the puck home from the right side after Providence had milled about the offensive zone for several moments. BU (28-8-5), though, which was seeking is first NCAA title since 2009 and sixth overall, took a 2-1 lead on goals a record four seconds apart by Ahti Oksanen and Danny O'Regan just over three minutes later.

Providence would tie the game 4:29 into the second stanza on a power-play one-timer from Mark Jankowski, the only power-play goal of the night in a game that featured only four penalties. BU regained the advantage on Mark Hohmann's rebound goal just over seven minutes later.

Former Northeastern recruit Jon Gillies made a career-high 49 saves for Providence, including 21 stops in the second period alone. He also made a diving save in the final minutes of the third session on an open Friar net as the Terriers pressed for the tying tally, and ultimately earned Most Outstanding Player accolades.

Providence, which has played regularly since 1952, had last made the national title game in 1985, when the Friars fell, 2-1, to Rensselaer at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena. Rooney’s uncle, Steve, who went on to win the Stanley Cup with Montreal a year later, was a member of that Providence squad.

The Friars became the fourth Hockey East school to win a national title, joining BU, Boston College, and Maine, and also gave Hockey East its ninth NCAA title since 1995.

Hail Hockey East as BU, PC to Meet for NCAA Title

It'll be an all-Hockey East final on Saturday night in Beantown when Providence College and Boston University meet in the NCAA Division I men's hockey national championship game.

15th-ranked Providence advanced to its first NCAA title tilt in 30 years with a 4-1 victory over No. 9 (Nebraska) Omaha in the first Frozen four semifinal on Thursday at TD Garden in Boston. Jon Gillies made 25 saves for the Friars, who took a 2-0 second-period lead on goals by captain Noel Acciari and Mark Jankowksi before salting away matters with two third-period scores after Jake Guentzel had brought UNO within one goal. The Friars outshot the Mavericks, 48-26, as UNO senior goaltender Ryan Massa completed his collegiate career with a 44-save effort in defeat.

No. 2 Boston U. got two goals and an assist from fabulous freshman Jack Eichel, including the game's first and final goals, in the Terriers' 5-3 win over No. 3 North Dakota in the nightcap. BU took leads of 2-0 and 4-1 before of 40 minutes of play before North Dakota stormed back with two third-period goals. The former Fighting Sioux threatened to tie the contest late before Eichel scored into an empty UND net in the final minute of play. UND outshot BU, 39-28, including 14-7 in the final stanza, but couldn't come up with the equalizer in coming up empty again at the Frozen Four for the seventh time in the last 14 seasons.

Both schools cashed in twice apiece on the power play. Matt O'Connor made 36 saves for the Terriers, despite a third-period puck-playing gaffe that resulted in a UND shorthanded goal. Zane McIntyre, who won the Mike Richter Award as the nation's top goaltender this season, finished with 23 stops for UND. McIntyre and Eichel are both finalists, along with Harvard's Jimmy Vesey, for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the nation's best player, which will be presented later today at Northeastern University's Matthews Arena.

BU and PC split a home-and-home Hockey East series in the fall in their only meetings of the 2014-15 campaign. The Terriers won, 4-1, at Providence on Halloween night, while the Friars notched a 2-1 win the next night in Boston.

Saturday's final will be the first to feature two Hockey East squads since 1999, when Maine edged New Hampshire, 3-2, in overtime in Anaheim, Calif.. It will also be the third all-Hockey East matchup all-time, as BU topped Maine, 5-2, in 1995 in Providence, R.I.

BU is seeking its sixth national title overall, and first since 2009, while PC is gunning for its inaugural NCAA crown. The Friars fell to Rensselaer, 2-1, in the 1985 title game.

Frozen Four is Finally Here

We're down to the final three games of the 2014-15 NCAA Division I men's hockey campaign.

Here's my look and predictions for today's Frozen Four semifinals at TD Garden in Boston between (Nebraska) Omaha and Providence in the matinee, and North Dakota and Boston University in the night cap. Both games will be televised on ESPN2 starting at 5 p.m.

Today's winners advance to Saturday's national championship contest (7 p.m., ESPN).

2015 NCAA Frozen Four Field for Boston Set

The 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Frozen Four field has been finalized.

The first semifinal game on April 9 at 5 p.m. at TD Garden in Boston will feature Providence against (Nebraska) Omaha. The second semifinal at 8:30 p.m. will star North Dakota against Boston University. Both contests will be televised on ESPN2.

Providence won the East Regional in its hometown and advanced to its first Frozen Four in 30 years by besting Miami, 7-5, and Denver, 4-1. Omaha won the Midwest Regional in South Bend, Ind., by topping Harvard, 4-1, and RIT, 4-0, to punch its ticket to its first-ever Frozen Four in its 18th season of varsity play.

North Dakota returned to the Frozen Four for the second straight season by claiming the West Regional in Fargo, N.D. with a pair of 4-1 victories over Quinnipiac and St. Cloud State. Boston University made it back to the Frozen Four for the first time since winning the 2009 national title by recording 3-2 wins over Yale and Minnesota-Duluth, the first one in overtime.

At the Division III men's level, Trinity (Conn.) defeated Wisconsin-Stevens-Point, 5-2, at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis on Saturday night to clinch its first-ever NCAA men's hockey title.

Vermont Eliminates BC in Three Games

Nearly 25 years later, the Maroon and Gold was again done in by a green and gold opponent near St. Patrick's Day. 

The ninth-ranked Boston College men's hockey team will have to wait a week to discover its NCAA Tournament fate after falling, 1-0, to visiting No. 17 Vermont on Sunday in Game 3 of their best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series at Kelley Rink.

BC won, 4-2, on Friday before UVM (22-14-4 overall) evened up the series on Saturday with a 3-1 victory. BC fell to 21-13-3 on the season.

Alexx Pivitera scored the game's only goal less than three minutes into the third period of Game 3 to offset a 22-save performance by BC sophomore netminder Thatcher Demko.

Vermont junior goaltender Brody Hoffman made 36 saves for the Catamounts on Sunday, one day after stopping 39 shots by the Eagles. He played clean-up on Friday night, stopping all 12 shots he faced in his first action in nearly a month, and for the weekend recorded 87 saves on 88 shots to boost UVM to the Hockey East semifinals at TD Garden in Boston.

The Catamounts will now face UMass Lowell on Friday at 5 p.m. The winner of that contest will meet the victor of the Boston University-New Hampshire tilt on Saturday evening for the Hockey East crown and the conference’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth.

On March 15-16, 1991, BC dropped a two-game set to visiting Alaska Anchorage in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. (Like UVM, UAA’s colors are green and gold.) BC would not return to the national picture for seven years after that series, while the 3-2 and 3-1 wins remain the only NCAA Tournament triumphs by the Seawolves in their 35-year history.

The 2015 NCAA Tournament Selection Show will be televised at noon on Sunday on ESPNU. BC, which dropped to 11th place in the latest national polls, is ranked ninth in the current Pairwise Rankings, which mimics the NCAA Tournament selection process. That almost assures that the Eagles will receive one of the 16 NCAA Tournament bids for the 13th consecutive season, the longest current streak in Hockey East. 

UVM sits 19th in the current Pairwise, and the Catamounts will likely to have to win the Hockey East championship this weekend to advance to the national tournament.

BC, BU Win at Beanpot

Ryan Fitzgerald's goal 76 seconds into overtime lifted ninth-ranked Boston College to a 3-2 victory over No. 16 Harvard in the Beanpot Tournament consolation game at TD Garden on Monday evening.

BC, which avenged a 6-3 loss to the Crimson back in November, thus remains in the top 10 in the Pairwise Rankings, which are used to used to mimic the 16-team NCAA Tournament selection process, while Harvard dropped into a tie for the 17th spot.

Matthew Gaudreau tied the game for BC at 8:56 of the third period after Harvard had taken a 2-1 lead on goals by Alexander Kerfoot and Sean Malone less than three minutes apart midway through the second stanza, the latter on a power play. Alex Tuch scored the game-opening power play goal in the first period for the Eagles, who got 33 saves from Thatcher Demko.

In the championship contest, Boston University claimed its record 30th Beanpot crown on an overtime power-play tally by Matt Grzelcyk to top Northeastern, 4-3. The goal was Grzelcyk's second of the game, and came just 51 seconds into the extra session for the Terriers.

It was BU's first Beanpot title since 2009, while the Huskies still haven't won one since 1988.

Monday's games had been postponed from their original date of Feb. 9 due to repeated snow that has blanketed Boston area in recent weeks. Northeastern edged BC, 3-2, in the first round on Feb. 2, while BU outlasted Harvard, 4-3, in overtime later that night.

BC's Beanpot Streak Ends at Five

There will be no Beanpot six-pack for the Boston College men's hockey team. Dustin Darou's wrist shot with 1:34 remaining in regulation made it past a screened Thatcher Demko (20 saves) to lift Northeastern to a 3-2 win over No. 11 BC in the second Beanpot Tournament semifinal on Monday night at TD Garden.

The Huskies will make it an all-canine Hockey East contest next Monday night, when they face No. 3 Boston University. The Terriers edged No. 6 Harvard, 4-3, in double overtime in the first semifinal on a Danny O'Regan goal just 2:18 into the second extra session, on BU's 67th shot on goal. BU will be seeking its record 30th Beanpot crown, and first since 2009, while four-time winner Northeastern hasn't celebrated on Causeway Street in February since 1988.

Prior to that, BC, which had won every Beanpot since 2010, will meet Harvard in the consolation game, which could have a major effect on the Pairwise rankings regarding the NCAA Tournament selection. The women's Beanpot will be a reversed field next Tuesday, with No. 1 BC and No. 4 Harvard meeting for the trophy at Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge. BC ousted Northeastern, 3-1, last night, with Haley Skarupa notching the game-winner midway through the third period. The Eagles will seek their third straight title next week against No. 4 Harvard, which blasted No. 6 BU, 9-2, behind two goals apiece from Hillary Crowe and Jessica Parker.

2015 Beanpot Begins Tonight

Not crazy about New England following Super Bowl XLIX (diehard Seahawks fan since I was 8), but it's Beanpot Tuesday in Boston.

Monday's annual first-round games at TD Garden were postponed by snow. No. 6 Harvard will now face No. 3 Boston University at 5 p.m. this evening, while Northeastern and No. 11 Boston College will follow at 8 p.m. on Causeway Street.

The winners will advance to next Monday's championship game, barring any future inclement weather developments. BC has won the last five men's Beanpot titles.

The 2015 Women's Beanpot also begins tonight at Bright Hockey Center at Harvard with the same interschool matchups. No. 1 BC, the defending champion, will square off with Northeastern at 5 p.m., followed by the No. 4 host Crimson against No. 6 BU at 8 p.m. The victors will advance to next week's title tilt in Cambridge.
