Wisconsin 2019 NCAA Women's Hockey Champion

Wisconsin added to its women's hockey title collection by blanking rival Minnesota, 2-0, in the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey championship game on Sunday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.
The Badgers had bested the Golden Gophers earlier this month for the WCHA championship.

Sophia Shaver notched the game-winning goal midway through the opening period, and senior team captain Annie Pankowski added a shorthanded insurance goal in the second session in her final game as a Badger. Kristen Campbell earned Most Valuable Player accolades, making 27 saves for Wisconsin (35-4-2 overall) in continuing her shutout string that stretched back to March 10, while Alex Gulstene stopped 30 shots for the Golden Gophers (32-6-1), who were seeking their first NCAA crown since 2016.

It was the first national title for Wisconsin since 2012, and the fifth all-time for the Badgers, all won under the tutelage of head coach Mark Johnson, retired NHL player and former goal-scoring star of the 1980 U.S. "Miracle on Ice".
