Two former Hockey East goaltenders staked their teams to series advantages in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Wednesday night.
Joseph Woll (Boston College) made 25 saves as the host Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the defending NHL champion Florida Panthers, 4-3, to extend their best-of-seven Eastern Conference series lead to two games to none. The visiting Dallas Stars got 29 saves from Jake Oettinger (Boston University) as they edged the Winnipeg Jets, 3-2, in the opener of their best-of-seven Western Conference series.
The other two Stanley Cup series resume tonight, with Carolina at Washington in the East, and Edmonton at Vegas in the West.
